Notary / DPS Record Services
The City of Houston’s Municipal Courts Department (MCD) now offers Public Notary Services at the Herbert W. Gee Municipal Courthouse at 1400 Lubbock. We also offer access to Department of Public Safety (DPS) Driving Records at the Herbert W. Gee Municipal Courthouse and Westside Command Station.
NOTARY SERVICES
Some examples of documents that may require a notarized signature are:
- Formal protests
- Deeds
- Registrations
- Oaths
- Certificates
- Depositions
Fees vary between $4 and $10 for basic one-signature notary services;
DPS RECORD SERVICES
The DPS Driving Records Service will allow court visitors to access their driving record from a designated computer on site. Once their record is located, individuals will be able to send the document for printing and retrieve it from the cashiers at the Public Services counter. The cost for this service is $4.
You must have the following items to order and pay for your DPS Records (on the website):
- Texas Drivers License
- Last four digits of your Social Security Number
- A valid credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, AMEX)
- Note: DPS charges $12 to access your record online.

I need something notarized. Where do I go?
Our Public Notary Service is available at the Herbert W. Gee Municipal Courthouse at 1400 Lubbock:
Do I need to bring anything specific with me, such as a driver’s license?
Please bring an identification card issued by a governmental agency or a passport issued by the United States
- State Drivers License
- State ID
- U.S. Passport
How much will it cost?
Base rates are $4 and $10, and some additional fees of $1 may be added depending on the requirements for your document.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept cash, checks, money orders, American Express, Discover, MasterCard and Visa.
How long does it take?
A typical notarization should take about five minutes.
