Houston Municipal Courts Advises Citizens of Non-City-Related Text Messages
July 27, 2016 -- It has come to the attention of the City of Houston Municipal Courts that companies are using text messages to solicit services. The text message requests the citizen to click on a link to reset their case(s) for a $10.00 fee. The Houston Municipal Courts does not send text messages or charge citizens to reset cases.
“We, the Houston Municipal Courts do not send text messages to defendants about their court cases. If you receive a text asking you to pay or to reset your case for a fee via a text message, please note this was not sent by our court. If you need information regarding your case(s), please contact our Houston Help Line at 713.837.0311 or visit our website www.houstontx.gov/courts. Again, this is not affiliated with the City of Houston Municipal Courts,” stated the Honorable Barbara E. Hartle, Director and Presiding Judge of the Municipal Courts Department.
Rules and guidelines on how to handle any of your court business, including instructions on how to reset and pay for your case(s) along with downloadable forms, are available to you at no charge on our website at www.houstontx.gov/courts. To speak to someone regarding your court cases, please dial 3-1-1 or 713.837.0311, if outside Houston city limits.
