ACCEPTABLE ITEMS
These are the ONLY accepted items at this location. No other material will be taken. For information on where to recycle and/or dispose of non-accepted items please see www.houstonsolidwaste.org.
- Paper – newspaper, office paper, junk mail, envelopes, magazines, postcards.
- Cardboard – Please ensure boxes are clean of any food, example of such exceptions are delivery/carryout pizza boxes that some greasy stains. Please ensure cardboard is scrapped off any food contents and empty all packing materials like plastic air bags, plastic wrapping, Styrofoam, wrapping paper, and craft paper.
- Cartons – both aseptic and gable top such as juice cartons, soup cartons, milk cartons
- Metal Cans – metal cans, aluminum cans and bottles, soup cans, veggie cans, fruit cans, pet food cans, empty spray paint cans only.
- Glass – bottles and jars, clear, green and brown. Please ensure bottles and jars are empty, and lids have been removed.
- Scrap Metal
- Electronics - Up to 5 items*, per resident, per month, including computers, laptops, smartphones, DVD players, and microwaves (throw away plate). *5 item limit excludes small amounts of peripheral components such as mouse, wires, and cables. TV's are accounted for separately, see below for additional information.
- Televisions – Maximum of 5 per resident per month, 50 lbs. each. Box CRT TVs are limited to a 27-inch screen, measured diagonally. TVs must be complete.
- Fluorescent tubes – A maximum of 10 tubes, per person, per month. Maximum tube length is 4 feet.
- Compact fluorescent bulbs - Maximum 15 per resident, per month.
- Tires – residents may bring up to 5 (five) tires with or without rims
- BOPA - batteries, Oil, Latex Paint and Antifreeze
- Paint – Only latex (water-based) paint. A maximum of 10 gallons, per person, per month.
- Flexible Plastic - grocery bags and newspaper sleeves only
- Helium tanks – Maximum 5 gallons, empty only.
- Toasters
Junk Waste, Tree Waste, and Garbage is not accepted at this facility. Please visit one of the SWMD Neighborhood Depositories Recycling Centers to properly handle these materials or for curbside service, refer to your Garbage, Tree Waste or Junk Waste collection schedule. NON-ACCEPTABLE ITEMS
- Alkaline Batteries – tape elements and throw in the trash.
- Empty or dried-out paint cans – can be thrown in the trash.
- Electrical appliances – shavers, toothbrushes, hair blowers, alarm clocks, ceiling fans, wine coolers, etc.
- Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Chemicals
- Oil Based Paint
- Rubber made type products
- Takeaway Pizza Boxes - Cardboard boxes such as Pizza boxes that have loose food in it or other loose contents that are not cardboard
- Junk Waste
- Toys
- Trash/Garbage
- Tree Waste
- Videotapes
- Large plastic Items - toys, garden tools, or furniture.
- Junk waste, tree waste, and garbage.
- Fire Extinguishers
- Devices with filters
- For unacceptable TVs, consult The Texas Recycles TVs Program or Compucycle.
- For paint from 11 to 25 gallons, spray cans with remaining paint, and fluorescent tubes longer than 4 feet, consult the Environmental Service Center.
- For ceiling fans, energy efficient working appliances, and flower pots, visit: the Reuse Warehouse.
For junk waste and tree waste, please visit the SWMD Neighborhood Depositories/ Recycling Centers. To properly handle these materials or for curbside service, refer to your Garbage, Tree Waste or Junk Waste collection schedule.
UNLOADING PROCEDURES
Pre-sorting of materials and bringing them in one-way containers that do not have to be returned to your vehicle will help reduce your wait time.
Examples of one-way containers: small cardboard boxes or paper grocery bags. No Plastics are allowed in small cardboard boxes or paper grocery bags.
All-Plastics Collection is only allowed in a one-way container that is Plastic type bags or plastic products that can be utilized to contain All-Plastic Collection Program contents can be used for the “Bag It & Bring It™.
