Youth Engagement
Emergency Preparation Resources For Youth
Houston is a very resilient city that has successfully mitigated and managed a variety of emergencies and in being a naturally disaster-prone city, emergency preparedness is our core priority. The youth engagement situational analysis highlighted children’s increased vulnerability in the face of emergencies and shed light on the need for child-centered emergency preparedness information and improved resource accessibility before, during, and after emergencies. The emergency preparedness campaign aims to address this issue by improving access to emergency preparation and recovery assistance information for youth ages 13-18. The campaign is youth-led and seeks to address the information gaps identified from the Teen Emergency Preparedness Pilot Survey. The youth leaders participated through the creation of infographics, videos, and presentations. See the video below to learn more about the campaign from youth themselves.
The Mayor's Office Education and Youth Engagement also worked in collaboration with the City of Houston and Harris County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management departments and other youth emergency preparedness stakeholders to help create and promote the materials created through social media channels, city websites, and other online sources.
