Gardens

The City of Houston’s park system includes 3 gardens. The Japanese Garden in Hermann Park, the McGovern Centennial Garden and Cheri Flores Garden Pavilion at Hermann Park, and the Houston Botanic Garden.

The Houston Parks and Recreation Department manages and maintains the Japanese Garden at Hermann Park. The Hermann Park Conservancy manages and maintains the McGovern Centennial Garden and Cheri Flores Garden Pavilion in Hermann Park. The Houston Botanic Garden is managed by the Houston Botanic Garden Conservancy for the Houston Parks and Recreation Department.

JAPANESE GARDEN

Nestled in a pine grove near the Sam Houston Monument in Hermann Park, you’ll find an island of serenity known as the Japanese Garden. Designed by world-renowned Japanese landscape architect Ken Nakajima, the garden was built to symbolize the friendship between Japan and the United States, and to recognize Houston’s thriving Japanese community. The Japanese Garden is open daily except for Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. There is no admission charged. Please note that the garden is not available for rentals or professional photography.

MCGOVERN CENTENNIAL GARDEN

The McGovern Centennial Gardens and Cherie Flores Pavilion opened to the public on December 22, 2014. Amenities include a rose garden, artwork, an interactive family garden, an arid garden, a pine walk, a woodland garden, and a spectacular 30-foot high garden mount, complete with a spiral trail to its summit.
