District G

Council Member Mary Nan Huffman

Council Member Mary Nan Huffman Mary Nan Huffman was sworn in as Council Member for District G on the morning of February 2, 2022, after winning a special election.

Prior to serving on Houston City Council, Huffman spent 10 years as a prosecutor in the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, quickly rising to become Chief Felony Prosecutor in the Child Exploitation Division and over the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Division. She brings her background as a law-and-order prosecutor to City Hall with a focus on keeping neighborhoods safe and city government free from corruption.

With crime on the rise across the country, including in Houston, Huffman believes that public safety is government’s most important responsibility. If we are not safe in our homes, on our streets, or in our businesses, nothing else government does truly matters. That’s why Huffman has made public safety her top priority.

In 2018, Huffman left the District Attorney’s Office to join the legal team at the Houston Police Officers’ Union, where she represented HPD officers in various matters related to their duties. She responded to scenes involving officer-involved shootings and in-custody deaths -- experiences that reinforced how essential it is for our first responders to have the tools and support they need to do their jobs effectively.

Huffman was raised in Denton, Texas, alongside her four siblings. Inspired by her parents' engagement in local politics, she developed an early appreciation for public service. She earned a degree in Political Science from the University of Oklahoma and received her law degree from St. Mary’s University School of Law.

Mary Nan Huffman and her husband, Eli Huffman III, have been married for 17 years and have two young sons. The Huffman family lives outside Beltway 8 and flooded during Hurricane Harvey. They attend St. John Vianney Catholic Church. As a mom, Huffman wants her children to grow up in a safe community with strong infrastructure and a city government that supports its residents -- because strong neighborhoods build strong cities.

In 2024, Huffman was re-elected to continue serving the people of District G for another four-year term.
