Update: Suspect Arrested, Charged in March Fatal Shooting at 5900 Hillcroft Avenue

April 11, 2025 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 5900 Hillcroft Avenue about 10:20 p.m. on March 31.

The suspect, Donte Deshun Coleman, 20, is charged with murder in the 180th State District Court. A booking photo of Coleman is attached to this news release.

The identity of the victim, 41, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants K. Meek and A. Lopez and Detectives J. Diaz and N. Sharp reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call at the above address and were directed by a witness to a male who had been shot. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victim to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

According to witnesses, one gunshot was heard, followed by other shots minutes later. Witnesses then saw the victim collapsed on the sidewalk near the above address. A possible suspect was seen standing in the median of the roadway and then fleeing the scene on foot.

At that time, the suspect was described only as a dark-skinned black male, about 5 feet 11 inches tall, wearing a gray hoodie and shorts. He had shoulder-length braids or locks coming out around the face opening of the hoodie.

Further investigation identified the suspect as Coleman. The Harris County District Attorney's Office was contacted and Coleman was subsequently charged for his role in the shooting. Coleman was arrested on Thursday (April 10) without incident by the HPD Midwest Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team and booked into the Harris County Jail.
