January 22, 2024 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 9000 Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) about 2:15 a.m. on Sunday (Jan. 21).

The identities of the two deceased persons - a male, 22, and a female, 23 - are pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant R. Dallas and Officer C. Moralez reported:

The female was driving a white Volkswagen Jetta southbound on the freeway at the above address when she rear ended a gray Honda Civic disabled in a main lane of traffic.  The female was ejected from the Volkswagen and a male passenger of the Honda was struck as he was standing outside the Honda.  Paramedics pronounced the female and male deceased at the scene.

The female driver, 22, of the Honda was not injured.  She was questioned, did not show signs of intoxication and was released.

The investigation is continuing.
