July 20, 2023 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the assault of a woman at 5969 West Sam Houston Parkway South service road (Beltway 8) about 12:50 a.m. on Tuesday (July 18).  

The suspect Jaaron A. Thomas, 27, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 230th State District Court.  A booking photo of Thomas is attached to this news release.

The victim, 18, was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.  

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Detectives A. Garcia and V. Jones reported:  

HPD patrol officers responded to a person down call at a motel at the above address and found the victim in the parking lot.  She had suffered wounds to her neck and lacerations.  Houston Fire Department paramedics transported the woman to the hospital.  

A preliminary investigation determined the victim was assaulted inside a room at the motel.  Officers discovered a male, also injured, inside the room.  He too was transported to an area hospital, where he was treated and released.  

Further investigation identified the male, Jaaron Thomas, as the suspect in this case.  The Harris County District Attorney's Office was contacted and Thomas was subsequently charged for his role in the incident. 

Earlier today (July 20), Thomas drove to the HPD Southwest Patrol Station in an attempt to retrieve his personal property and was arrested by the HPD Southwest Patrol Crime Suppression Team without incident.  Thomas was then transported to the Harris County Joint Processing Center.
