July 10, 2023 - Houston police are investigating the apparent accidental fatal shooting of a juvenile female at 2205 Hayes Road about 12:30 p.m. last Friday (July 7).

The identity of the victim, 8, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. Duncan and Detective D. Hobson reported:

Officers were dispatched a shooting call at an apartment at the above address and observed paramedics transporting a child from the scene.  The victim had suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at Texas Children's Hospital - West Tower.

Detectives learned the child located a pistol inside her apartment and accidentally shot herself.  An adult family member was inside the apartment when the incident occurred.  

The investigation is continuing.  No charges have been filed at this time.
