The suspect, Dionte Johnny Ricco Vaughn, 30, is charged by the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful possession of a weapon in the 435th District Court, and evading arrest in County Court # 5. A booking photo of Vaughn, who is hospitalized, is not available at this time.

HPD Special Investigations Unit Sergeant E. Wohlgemuth and Detectives J. Kosler, C. Walker and D. Escobar reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at an apartment complex at the above address. Officers arrived, heard a woman scream for help and attempted to make entry into the apartment. As the woman opened the door for officers to enter, the suspect, later identified as Vaughn, ran out a back door to the apartment balcony. An officer outside the apartment saw the suspect on the balcony was armed with a firearm and gave him verbal commands to drop the weapon. The suspect ignored the officer's commands and jumped down from the third floor balcony to the first floor.
Officer Biagas attempted to detain the suspect and got into a struggle, during which she discharged her duty weapon. The suspect was struck in the lower area of his body, dropped his weapon and fled the scene on foot, but eventually returned. He was immediately taken into custody and given medical assistance before Houston Fire Department paramedics transported him to the hospital in stable condition with a gunshot wound to the buttocks.
As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents in the Houston city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit and the Internal Affairs Division. Since it occurred in the Montgomery County limits, the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office is investigating the incident.
