September 6, 2022 - Houston police are investigating the fatal crash that occurred at 8400 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) about 7:10 a.m. on Sunday (Sept. 4).

The identity of the male victim, 72, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rodriguez and Officer J. Tran reported:

A male was driving a grey Nissan Versa northbound on the Gulf Freeway when he struck a black Lincoln MKX SUV, which was stopped in the main lanes of the freeway.  The driver of the Lincoln (victim) was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver and a passenger in the Nissan were transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

Further investigation determined the driver of the Versa was not intoxicated.

No charges have been filed at this time, as the investigation is continuing.
