June 22, 2022 - The fatal shooting of a man at 11878 South Wilcrest Drive that occurred about 3 p.m. on Tuesday (June 21) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.

The identity of the deceased male is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Montalvo and Detective E. Martinez reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a business at the above address and found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers were advised the male entered the business, armed with a sharp object, opened the cash register, and stole money. An employee advised officers he shot the male in self-defense as the male was leaving the business. Houston Fire Department transported the male to an area hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

After consulting with the Harris County District Attorney's Office, this case will be presented to a grand jury for review.

At this time the department does not believe there is a continuous threat to the general public.
