June 21, 2022 - Houston police are investigating the shooting of an HPD officer and apparent suicide of a male suspect at 12801 Roydon Drive about 2:10 a.m. on Saturday (June 18).

HPD Officer Sabeh Salameh suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to both legs and was transported to an area hospital where he was treated and released. Officer Salameh was sworn in as an officer in May 2021 and is assigned to the Clear Lake Patrol Division.

The suspect, Jamemarkus Alexander Clemons, 25, suffered an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Special Investigations Unit Sergeant M. Glover and Detectives S. Mohajer, A. Henderson and I. Ulloa reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to reports of a suspicious person with a weapon at an apartment complex at the above address. Other witnesses also reported hearing gunshots in the area around the same time. Officers arrived on scene and immediately searched the area for the suspicious person.

A short time later, officers heard gunshots nearby inside the apartment complex. Officer Salameh exited his vehicle to investigate and, soon after, was struck by gunfire in both legs. Officer Salameh did not discharge his duty weapon and other responding HPD officers provided medical assistance. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported Officer Salameh to the hospital.

Responding HPD officers were able to positively identify the suspect responsible for the shooting. With the help of several witnesses, officers determined the suspect was inside an apartment near the original shooting location. HPD SWAT (Special Weapons & Tactics Team) and Hostage Negotiation Team responded to the scene, established contact with the suspect and confirmed his involvement in the shooting. After several hours of negotiations, family members of the suspect arrived on scene and pleaded with him to surrender, which he did not. Later, the suspect fired multiple gunshots from inside the apartment and stopped communicating. Several hours later, SWAT officers entered the apartment and found the suspect deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

No HPD officers discharged their duty weapons during the incident.

As is customary in instances when a suspect is deceased in the presence of HPD officers, this case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit and the Internal Affairs Division.
