January 04, 2022 - Houston police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash at 5500 North Freeway (North Interstate Highway 45) about 8 a.m. on Sunday (Jan. 2).
The identity of the male victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rodriguez and Officer J. Tran reported:
Officers responded to a report of a person found deceased at the above address and found the victim unresponsive in a grassy area between the southbound lanes of the freeway and the service road. Paramedics pronounced him deceased.
The victim had injuries consistent with an auto/pedestrian crash. A preliminary investigation and road evidence reflected an unknown vehicle was southbound on the mainlanes of the freeway when it failed to drive in a single lane and struck the pedestrian. The vehicle crossed the grassy median and made it onto the service road.
The unknown driver is wanted for felony failure to stop and render aid.
Anyone with information on the wanted vehicle or driver in this case is urged to contact the HPD Hit and Run Unit at 713-247-4072 or Crimes Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
