February 21, 2022 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 300 East Loop (East Interstate 610 South) about 2:55 a.m. on Sunday (February 20).

The identity of the deceased male, 23, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rose and Officer J. Louang-Pho reported:

The deceased male was driving a white Chevrolet Traverse southbound at the above address when the vehicle struck the rear of a white Freightliner Cascadia 18-wheeler towing a trailer.  The traverse spun around, struck a concrete wall, and then caught fire. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the male deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Freightliner remained on scene and was questioned and released.  He did not show signs of intoxication.

The investigation is continuing.
