Incident at 124 North Carolina Street
October 18, 2005 -- The fatal
shooting of a suspect at 124 North Carolina Street about 10:40
p.m. on Monday, October 17, 2005, will be referred to a Harris
County grand jury.
The identity of the suspect is pending an autopsy
by the Harris County Medical Examiner's office.
HPD Homicide Division Officers K. Carr, F. Mares
and T. Hufstedler reported:
Officers responded to a call involving a shooting
at 124 North Carolina Street and found the unknown suspect dead
in the front yard of the residence. The homeowner, Deaundrea Shorts,
31, had just arrived home and attempted to unlock his front door
when he was alerted by a noise. When he looked up, he observed
an unknown male hiding in a trashcan pointing a gun at him. The
homeowner reacted quickly and shot the suspect several times.
The wounded suspect managed to grab the homeowner as he attempted
to run for help, but the homeowner was able to break free. After
the shooting, Mr. Shorts observed two additional unknown males
running from the location southbound on North Carolina Street.
