Investigation into Fatal Crash at 1500 Southwest Freeway
November 15, 2021 - Houston police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash at 1500 Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) about 2:50 a.m. on Sunday (November 14).
The identity of the male victim, 24, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant M. Hroch and Officer S. Bouarar reported:
The victim was driving a red Suzuki Forenza northbound at the above address when he was struck from behind by an unknown vehicle causing him to lose control and overturn. The unknown driver fled the scene.
The driver of a silver Infinity G37 then struck the victim's vehicle and remained at the scene. The Suzuki's front and rear passengers were able to extricate a second rear passenger, who was subsequently transported to the hospital in an unknown condition. The victim remained trapped inside the Suzuki.
The driver of a BMW sedan then struck the victim's vehicle, pushing it to the shoulder of the freeway. The BMW's driver, Gustavo Adalfo Martinez Lopez (H/m, 33), was transported to an area hospital and subsequently charged with DWI in the Harris County Criminal Court # 3.
The driver of the Suzuki was pronounced deceased at the scene by Houston Fire Department paramedics.
The unknown driver of the vehicle that fled the scene is wanted on a felony charge of failure to stop and render aid.
