Suspect Arrested, Charged in Shooting at 6626 Ezzard Charles Lane
November 04, 2021 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the shooting of a man at 6626 Ezzard Charles Lane about 9 p.m. on Tuesday (Nov. 2).
The suspect, Kevin Dion Mitchell (b/m, 55), is charged with aggravated assault of a family member in the 177th State District Court. A booking photo of Mitchell is attached to this news release.
The victim, Justin Cheramie, 41, was transported to an area hospital where he is expected to survive his injuries.
HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Detectives D. Crandall and G. Black reported:
Officers responded to a shooting in-progress call at the residence at the above address and found Mr. Cheramie with a gunshot wound to the chest and a possible suspect, Mitchell, still on the scene. Witnesses stated that Cheramie had been having disputes with Mitchell, a roommate at the home. The two got into an argument that escalated when Mitchell pulled a pistol and shot Cheramie one time. Paramedics transported Cheramie to the hospital.
Mitchell was questioned by detectives, taken into custody and subsequently charged in the shooting.
