Suspect Arrested, Charged in Shooting at 5355 De Soto Street
July 10, 2020 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the shooting of a man at 5355 De Soto Street about 10 p.m. on Thursday (July 9).
The suspect, Rosibel R. Umanzor (P/f, 50), is charged with aggravated assault of a family member in the 178th State District Court. A booking photo of Umanzor is attached to this news release.
The victim, Nelson Vasquez, 40, was transported to an area hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening wounds.
HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Detective C. Johns reported:
Mr. Vasquez and the suspect, Umanzor, were arguing about reports Vasquez was having an affair with another woman. According to Vasquez, Umanzor became angry and retrieved a pistol from under a mattress. Vasquez stated he told her the gun was loaded and to put it down. The weapon then discharged, striking him in the leg.
Vasquez was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Umanzor, who reported feeling dizzy and faint, was transported to an area hospital for treatment before being booked into the Harris County Joint Processing Center on the above charge.
