July 9, 2020 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the shooting of a man at 1822 Barker Cypress Road #2702 about 5:20 a.m. on Wednesday (July 8).

The suspect, Zachary Ryan Smith (w/m, 20), is charged with aggravated assault- serious bodily injury in the 185th State District Court.  A booking photo of Smith is attached to this news release.

The victim, Tahj Galloway, 21, was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Detectives D. Polite, A. Carroll and C. Castellani reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call at an apartment at the above address.  Upon arrival, they found Mr. Galloway suffering from a gunshot wound to the face.  He was transported by Houston Fire Department paramedics to the hospital for treatment of his wounds.

Witnesses reported seeing suspect Smith "playing" with a pistol, both immediately before and after it discharged, striking Galloway.  Smith was arrested without incident and charged in this case.
