Investigation into Shooting Incident at 12200 Bissonnet
February 1, 2019 - Charges are pending against two robbery suspects involved in a shooting incident with Houston police officers at 12200 Bissonnet about 3:40 p.m. on Thursday (Jan. 31).
The two male suspects, in their 20s, are in custody and facing charges of aggravated robbery and aggravated assault. Their identities will be released after charges have been filed.
No officers or suspects were injured. One HPD officer discharged his duty weapon. The officer, who has an undercover assignment, is assigned to the Northeast Patrol Division and was sworn in as an officer in August 2013.
HPD Special Investigations Unit Sergeant H. Chavez and Detectives G. Potter and R. Delarosa reported:
Officers from the Northeast Division Tactical Unit followed a vehicle occupied by robbery suspects to the 12600 block of Bissonnet. The officers believed the suspects were involved in numerous robberies in the northeast area and were conducting surveillance on them.
Several suspects exited the vehicle and rushed into a game room at 12660 Bissonnet and committed an aggravated robbery. When the suspects exited the game room, they got into two separate vehicles and fled the scene. The officers began to follow the suspects in their unmarked HPD vehicles to stop and arrest them. As one unmarked HPD vehicle was driving in front of the suspect vehicle (a grey Toyota), and another HPD unmarked vehicle was following behind them, the suspects tried to get around the traffic. When the officer in the lead unmarked vehicle tried to prevent the suspects from passing him up, the passenger (suspect) in the grey Toyota started shooting at the officer's vehicle. The officer in the other unmarked vehicle following behind the suspects feared for his fellow officer's safety and discharged his duty weapon at the suspect vehicle, striking it multiple times. The suspect vehicle ultimately stopped in the 11800 block of Bissonnet and the suspects started to flee on foot. The officers were able to apprehend the two suspects from the grey Toyota. There were two guns recovered at the scene.
As is customary in officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit and the HPD Internal Affairs Division.
