The female victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant K. Harris and Officer J. Perrotte reported:
The driver of a purple 18-wheeler traveling southbound on McCarty Road was stopped at a red light at the intersection of the North Loop East (North Interstate Highway 610 East) service road. When the light turned green, the driver started to make a left turn and struck the victim. The victim, a pedestrian, was attempting to cross McCarty on the northern side of the intersection, which does not have a crosswalk. The 18-wheeler's driver could not see the victim, as his view was blocked by a second 18-wheeler to his right whose driver was also turning left.
Currently, there are no charges in this incident, as the investigation is continuing.
