Investigation into Fatal Crash at 14600 Hempstead Road

January 22, 2017 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 14600 Hempstead Road about 2:25 a.m. on Saturday (Jan. 20).

The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene.  His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant R. Klementich and Officer J. Glenn reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to what was initially believed to be a fatal hit-and-run crash at the above address.  Based upon evidence at the scene and a witness’ statement, further investigation revealed this does not appear to be the case.

A female witness told investigators she was being sex trafficked by the crash victim and the two had been at a nearby club when he began assaulting her.  She fled the club with the male pursuing.  During the pursuit, he continued to assault her.  A passing motorist witnessed the assault and stopped in an attempt to help.  The male began threatening the good Samaritan, stating he had a gun and was going to shoot him.  The male then reached towards his back waistband as if to retrieve a weapon.  The motorist, fearing for his life, re-entered his vehicle and began to drive away.  As he did so, the female tried to jump into the vehicle in an attempt to also flee.  The male then grabbed her and attempted to pull her from the vehicle.  As the good Samaritan drove away, both individuals fell to the ground.  According to the witness, the male then walked across the roadway where he collapsed and was pronounced deceased.

The female was transported to an area hospital for evaluation.

HPD investigators are asking the good Samaritan to contact police to provide a statement.
The investigation is continuing.
