Investigation into Fatal Crash at 200 East Freeway
August 28, 2018 - A newborn boy delivered after his mother was injured in a crash has died. The crash occurred at 200 East Freeway (East Interstate Highway 10) about 11:30 a.m. on August 11.
The male infant, born on August 11, was pronounced deceased at Memorial Hermann Hospital today (August 28). The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences will determine the infant's cause of death.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Arnold and Officer R. Araiza reported:
The driver of a white Infiniti G35 was traveling westbound on the East Freeway, made an unsafe lane change and struck a black Pontiac Torrent. The impact caused the Infiniti to roll over, ejecting a pregnant female passenger. The Infiniti then struck a white Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck before coming to a stop. HFD paramedics transported the woman to the hospital, where she gave birth to the boy. The woman suffered cuts and bruises and remains hospitalized in stable condition.
No charges have been filed at this time, as the investigation is continuing.
