Investigation into Fatal Crash at 5800 Tidwell
January 10, 2017 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 5800 Tidwell about 12:40 p.m. on January 1.
The male victim, 22, a pedestrian, was transported by private vehicle to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant G. Hall and Senior Police Officer R. Saenz reported:
The victim, reported to be a blind male, was walking with another blind person and attempted to cross Tidwell when he stepped into the street. The victim's companion, who could distinguish shadows, thought a vehicle was approaching and tried to pull the victim back onto the shoulder. The victim was then struck by a vehicle of unknown make or model. The victim was not taken to the hospital but instead, taken home. He was then found unresponsive in the shower and transported by HFD paramedics to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
HPD Homicide investigators initially opened an investigation into the incident and determined the death was a result of a vehicle crash. The investigation is continuing.
