Update: Suspect Arrested, Charged in Deaths at 1095 Marjorie
March 29, 2016 - Houston police have arrested a suspect charged in the deaths of a male and female found deceased following a fire at 1095 Marjorie about 12:45 a.m. on December 31.
Christopher James Jackson (b/m, 28) is charged with murder in the 248th State District Court. A photo of Jackson is attached to this news release.
Jackson is accused in the deaths of Gavonte Antwon Atkins, 27, who had suffered gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, and Dorothy Lee Carter, 75, who was transported to an area hospital where she later died from apparent smoke inhalation.
HPD Homicide Division Officers S. Spivey and W. Huff reported:
HPD patrol officers, along with Houston Fire Department emergency personnel, responded to a house fire at the above address. HFD firefighters located the female victim (Ms. Carter) inside the residence and immediately transported her to the hospital. The male victim (Mr. Atkins) was found deceased inside the residence.
A 2002 blue Buick LeSabre belonging to Atkins was determined to be missing from the residence and was later recovered in a remote location.
Further investigation led to the identification of Jackson as a suspect in this case. On Monday (March 28) he was arrested and confessed to his role in the deaths of Atkins and Carter.
