Suspects Arrested, Charged in Incident at 6400 Hillcroft
September 9, 2015 - Charges have been filed against two suspects who fired shots at Houston police officers at 6400 Hillcroft about 2:15 a.m. on Tuesday (September 8).
One suspect, Jorge Rivera-Hernandez (H/m, 29), is charged with aggravated assault of a public servant in the 182nd State District Court. The other suspect, Juan Lendos-Rosales (H/m, 23), is charged with evading arrest/detention in Harris County Criminal Court #13.
Photos of both suspects are attached to this news release.
Officers M. Falcone and L. Salamanca, who discharged their duty weapons, were not injured in the incident. Officers Falcone and Salamanca were sworn in as officers in May 2013 and January 2010, respectively, and are assigned to the South Gessner Patrol Division.
HPD Homicide Division Senior Police Officer J. Villareal and Officer R. Lujan reported:
HPD patrol officers were conducting a crime initiative in an area known for narcotics activity at the Principe Azul nightclub at the above address. As officers stood outside the club while it closed for the night, a gunshot was heard from the rear of the building. Officers immediately ran toward the rear of the club and heard a second gunshot. Numerous witnesses then directed officers to an alley behind the club. Officers then saw the nightclub security guard running behind a white Chevrolet Impala accelerating toward them (officers) at a high rate of speed. The security guard gestured toward the vehicle, leading officers to believe it had been involved in the previous shooting incident. Officers then saw the muzzle flash of a weapon being fired at them. As the vehicle continued to accelerate toward them, Officers Falcone and Salamanca, fearing for their lives, discharged their duty weapons at the vehicle. Both officers advised over their police radios of shots being fired and provided a description of the suspects' vehicle.
South Gessner patrol officers pursued the vehicle and managed to take one suspect into custody in the 6000 block of Gulfton. The other suspect was then taken into custody a short distance away. One suspect was found to be in possession of a pistol.
As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions.
