Officer Smith and a another motorcycle unit officer were conducting traffic duties in the Sears parking lot at the above address. At some point, a shot was fired in the direction of the officers and Officer Smith was struck in the back. Just before the shooting, both officers saw a champagne-colored Buick, believed to be involved in an accident with a white Jeep minutes, pull into the parking lot. The driver is described only as a black male and the passenger is described only as a pregnant female. Before the couple could seek help from the officers, shots were fired from an unknown direction by unknown suspects. The male and female then fled the scene.
