June 3 2015 - Houston police are investigating a fatal auto-pedestrian crash that occurred at 8700 Varner Road about 6:40 p.m. on Tuesday (June 2).

The female victim, 22 months, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant P. Kung and Officer N. Godin reported:

The driver of a Ford F-250 pickup truck was traveling westbound on Varner, on the wrong side of the street, attempting to re-park his vehicle. The child suddenly ran across the street and was struck by the pickup truck. The child died at the scene.

The driver, who showed no sign of intoxication, remained at the scene. He was questioned and released.
