UPDATE: Suspect Arrested in Fatal Shooting at 8136 Findlay
July 9, 2015 - A suspect wanted and charged in the fatal shooting of a woman at 8136 Findlay about 11:40 p.m. on July 1 is now in custody.
The suspect, Aaron Leach-Veliz (H/m, 42), was arrested in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, on Wednesday (July 8) without incident. He was charged with murder in the 184th State District Court, accused in the killing of his wife, Armandina Leach, 44. A photo of Leach-Veliz is attached to the news release.
HPD Homicide Division Senior Police Officer T. Andrade and Officer M. Arroyo reported:
Officers responded to a shooting at the above address and found Ms. Leach had been shot multiple times. She was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Additional investigation found that Leach and her husband, Leach-Veliz (suspect), were in the process of getting a divorce. Leach-Veliz had been hiding near bushes waiting for his wife to arrive before shooting her. Leach-Veliz was last seen walking eastbound on Findlay.
Investigators learned the suspect fled to Mexico. Members of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection took Leach-Veliz into custody about 9:45 p.m on Wednesday. He will be brought back to Harris County in coming days to face charges.
