December 21, 2015 - Houston police have arrested a suspect charged in the fatal stabbing of a woman at 702 North Sam Houston Parkway East about 5:20 a.m. on Saturday (Dec. 19).
The suspect, Abelardo Narvaez (H/m, 38), is charged with murder in the 185th State District Court. A photo of Narvaez - with injuries sustained prior to officers' arrival - is attached to this news release.
He is accused in the stabbing of Monica Balderas, 34, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. Hassig and Officer T. Ferguson reported:
Ms. Balderas and Narvaez returned to their motel room they shared with Balderas' sons at the above address after having spent the evening out. The two began fighting and woke the two sons. The sons were able to get Narvaez and Balderas separated. When Narvaez was told to leave and that police would be called, he went to the kitchen and grabbed two knives. He then swung the knives and stabbed Balderas as her sons tried to defend her. One son ran for assistance as the second son fought with Narvaez and detained him at the scene until officers arrived. Narvaez was arrested without further incident.
