October 27, 2014 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 9100 North Loop East (North Interstate Highway 610) about 1 p.m. today.

The identity of the female victim, 35, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant R. Dukes and Officer E. Rubio reported:

The victim was driving a blue Chevrolet Captiva northbound on the North Loop East near Wallisville Road, behind an 18-wheeler tractor trailer. The driver of the 18-wheeler slowed down due to traffic congestion ahead and the Captiva struck the back of the trailer. The victim, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. A small dog found inside the victim's vehicle is now being cared for by the Bureau of Animal and Regulatory Control (BARC).

The investigation is continuing.
