Update: Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Traffic Accident at 9000 Airport
October 16, 2014 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested and charged in a fatal hit-and-run traffic accident at 9000 Airport Boulevard about 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday (Oct. 15).
The suspect, Phyllis Ann Booker (w/f, 54), is charged with Failure to Stop and Render Aid (FSRA) in the 337th State District Court. A photo of Booker is attached to this news release.
The male victim, Bobby Brooks, 56, of Houston, was pronounced dead at the scene.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant R. Dukes and Officer K. Heaverlo reported:
Mr. Brooks was riding a bicycle southbound in the 8100 block of Hansen and entered the pedestrian crosswalk. An unidentified yellow school bus, traveling northbound on Hansen, had a green light and turned right onto Airport Boulevard, striking Mr. Brooks. The driver of the school bus then fled the scene.
Further investigation led to the identification of Booker, a driver for First Student Bus Company, as a suspect in this case. Based upon evidence obtained, she was subsequently arrested later that afternoon without incident. There were no children on the bus at the time of the incident.
