March 11, 2014 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 9300 block of the North Freeway (North Interstate Highway 45) service road about 12:05 a.m. today (March 12).  

The male victim, 66, was pronounced dead at the scene.  His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant I. Izaguirre and Officer M. Pritchard reported:  

According to witnesses, the victim was driving a gray Nissan Altima at a high rate of speed northbound on the North Freeway service road.  As the vehicle approached the intersection of Mount Houston Road, for unknown reasons, the driver lost control and struck a light pole.  The Nissan then struck a blue Toyota Solara stopped at a red light.  The driver of the Nissan died at the scene.  The driver of the Toyota was not injured.
