January 13, 2014 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic acccident in the 9900 block of the Gulf Freeway (Interstate Highway 45 South) about 8:40 p.m. on Sunday (January 12).
The identity of the victim, 56, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Roberts and Officer P. Tran reported:
The victim was riding as a passenger on a Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling northbound on the Gulf Freeway service road behind a maroon Chevrolet Lumina minivan. The driver of the Chevrolet changed lanes onto the entrance ramp of the freeway and was struck from behind by the driver of the Harley Davidson. Witnesses reported the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed and neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing helmets. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in critical condition. A third driver, also operating a Harley Davidson motorcycle, struck debris from the accident and lost control of the motorcycle but was not injured. The driver of the Chevrolet was not injured.
