February 17, 2014 - Charges have been filed against three suspects arrested in an incident in which a Houston police officer discharged a weapon at 6865 T.C. Jester Boulevard about 7:45 p.m. last Friday (Feb. 14).
The suspects are identified as Stefan Carrington (b/m, 17), Patrick Evans (b/m, 19) and Edward Jamison (b/m, 19). They are each charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon in the 179th State District Court. Photos of the suspects are not available, pending further investigation.
Officer K. Lauro, who discharged his duty weapon, was not injured. Officer Lauro, assigned to the North Patrol Division, was sworn in as an officer in June 2008.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant A. Semmelrock and Officer M. Stahlin reported:
Officer Lauro responded to a hold-up alarm at the Family Dollar store at the above location and saw three suspects running from the store. As the officer pursued the suspects, one suspect pointed a gun at him. When the officer then heard a shot, he feared for his life and discharged his duty weapon. The three suspects continued to flee on foot and the officer lost sight of them after they jumped a fence. Other officers set up a perimeter in the area and, with the help of police helicopters and a K-9 unit, arrested all three suspects.
A pistol as well as money stolen from the store and its customers were recovered at the scene.
As is customary when an officer discharges a weapon in the city limits, this incident is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions.
