Officers were called to Memorial Hermann Hospital regarding a baby with severe head trauma. Investigators with the Juvenile Division Physical Abuse Unit conducted initial interviews with the child's babysitter (Perez). The baby died the following day, November 16, and the case was transferred to the Homicide Division. Perez told investigators the child fell off a counter and struck his head at her (Perez's) residence at the above address.
An autopsy ruled the infant's death a homicide, due to shaking or striking of the baby.
On January 29, Perez was charged and subsequently arrested without incident at her residence on Monday (Feb. 3).
