August 8, 2014 - Two suspects have been arrested and others are being sought in connection with related shooting incidents at 10777 Beechnut and 10100 Beechnut about 4 p.m. on Wednesday (August 6).
Jordan Q. Wilson (b/m, 21) and Reginald J. Smith (b/m, 19) are in custody and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in Harris County Criminal Court #10. Wilson is also charged with felony possession of marijuana in the 177th State District Court. Photos of Wilson and Smith are attached to this news release.

One victim, an 8-year-old girl, remains hospitalized in stable condition with a gunshot wound to the leg. Her 7-year-old brother suffered a grazing wound and was treated and released from the hospital.

Two officers with the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) task force, one a Rosenberg PD officer and the other a deputy constable with the Harris County Precinct One Constable's Office, discharged their weapons at suspect Smith. No one was injured.

HPD Homicide Division Officers R. Ridel, N. Rosenblatt and K. Daignault reported:

Wilson and Smith engaged in a drug transaction with an unknown Hispanic male in the 10100 block of Beechnut. The Hispanic male arrived at the location in a white, two-door pickup truck with an extended cab. Wilson and Smith tried to rob the Hispanic male and then drive away. The Hispanic male retaliated by firing his own gun at the vehicle driven by suspects Wilson and Smith as they fled. A young girl, an innocent bystander in the same parking lot, was struck by one of the bullets fired by the unknown Hispanic male. Her younger brother was grazed and not seriously injured.

Suspects Wilson and Smith fled the scene, driving westbound on Beechnut at a high rate of speed. Wilson lost control of the vehicle and caused a traffic accident in the 10700 block of Beechnut. Wilson and Smith tried to run from the scene with guns and bags of marijuana in their hands. Two HIDTA officers witnessed the collision and then attempted to apprehend the suspects.

Suspect Wilson surrendered, but suspect Smith ran inside a McDonald's restaurant. Smith produced a gun and began to raise it in the direction of the officers. Both officers, in fear for their lives, discharged their weapons toward suspect Smith, who was not hit. Smith was then taken into custody by responding HPD officers.

As is customary when a law enforcement officer discharges a weapon in the city limits of Houston, this incident is being investigated by the HPD Homicide Division.
