March 08, 2012 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 2700 block of the North Loop East (North Interstate Highway 610 East) about 3:10 p.m. on Thursday (March 7). 

The male victim, 24, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.  His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. 

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant B. Rogers and Officer T. Dougherty reported: 

The victim was driving a white Ford van eastbound on the North Loop when he struck the rear of a tractor-trailer truck that had slowed because of brake failure.  The driver of the van was taken to the hospital where he died.  The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured. 

The investigation is continuing.
