June 12, 2013 - Houston police are investigating a fatal shooting at 9430 Richmond Avenue about 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday (June 11).

The victim, Kevin Moncada, 23, of Houston, was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Officers N. Rosenblatt and K. Daignault reported:

Mr. Moncada was with several friends in a parking lot at the above address when he was approached by the suspect, who was known by the victim. One of Moncada's friends immediately approached the suspect and tried to calm him down. The suspect ignored the friend's pleas, exited his vehicle armed with a gun and shot Moncada several times. The suspect fled and Moncada died at the scene.

Further investigation determined on June 1, Moncada and the suspect had gotten into an altercation, which then turned into a physical fight in which the suspect struck Moncada in the face with his fist. After the fight, the suspect continued to threaten Moncada with bodily harm and death. The investigation is continuing.
