Suspect Arrested, Charged in Incident at 5859 Heron Street
April 25, 2013 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in an assault of his elderly mother at 5859 Heron Street about 11:40 a.m. on Wednesday (April 24).
The suspect, Otis James Morris (b/m, DOB: 1-16-65), is charged with injury to eldery causing serious bodily injury in the 337th State District Court. A photo of Morris is attached to this news release.
The victim, Delores Morris, 79, suffered cuts to her face, head and chest and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in serious condition.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Burton and Officers I. Duplechain and J. Horn reported:
Otis Morris and his mother, Delores, who live in the same residence at the above address, got into an argument. At some point, Morris slashed his mother several times with a blade, causing her injuries. Delores Morris was then taken to the hospital to be treated for her injuries. Morris initially told investigators he was defending himself.
Further investigation and evidence from the scene determined Otis Morris' statements were not consistent with the injuries his mother sustained and he was taken into custody without incident.
