Suspect Sought in Incident at 4700 Wenda

April 8, 2013 - Houston police are investigating an incident in which an HPD officer discharged his weapon at an armed suspect in the 4700 block of Wenda about 4:25 p.m. on Saturday (April 6).

The unidentified suspect fled the scene and is wanted at this time.

A second suspect, Roy Dion Duncan (b/m, DOB: 6-8-94), was taken into custody and is charged with possession of marijuana in Harris County Criminal Court #2. A photo of suspect Duncan is not available at this time.

HPD Officer P. Awomosu, who discharged his duty weapon, is assigned to the Southeast Patrol Division and was sworn in as an officer in January 2009. He was not injured in this incident.

HPD Homicide Division Senior Police Officer C. Scales and Officer I. Ulloa reported:

Officer Awomosu and his partner conducted a traffic stop on the unknown suspect's vehicle in the 4700 block of Wenda. The suspect then drove to the back of an apartment complex where he stopped the vehicle. He then exited the vehicle and fled on foot south through the parking lot. The driver jumped a chain-link fence at the back of the apartment complex and then turned towards Officer Awomosu, who was pursuing him. The suspect pulled a gun from his waistband and the officer, fearing for his life, discharged his weapon once at the suspect. It is unknown if the suspect was injured. The passenger of the vehicle (Duncan) was detained by Officer Awomosu's partner and subsequently arrested and charged with possession of marijuana.

As is customary in HPD officer-involved shootings, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions.

Anyone with information on the identity of the unknown wanted suspect is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
