October 11, 2012 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 1700 West 43rd about 2:10 a.m. today.

The male victim, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant I. Izaguirre and Officer P. Pham reported:

The victim was driving a gray Mazda 6 eastbound in the 1700 block of West 43rd at a high rate of speed when he failed to maintain a single lane, lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree in the median. According to a witness, the victim was stopped at a red light and accelerated when the light turned green. The witness then saw a cloud of dirt and debris and observed the cras.
