March 1, 2012 - The shooting of a female at 7703 Alperton about 1 p.m. on Wednesday (Feb. 29) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.

The female, Tammy Sue Zaleta, 23, of the above address, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was tranported to Ben Taub General Hospital in critical condition.

The male shooter, 65, was not injured.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant W. Meeler and Officer J. French reported:

The male, Zaleta's foster father, told responding HPD patrol officers that he was forced to shoot Zaleta when she attempted to stab him with a knife after she flew into a rage.  A knife was recovered at the scene.  It is believed Zaleta was under the influence of narcotics at the time of the incident.

The investigation is continuing.
