Update: Suspect Arrested, Charged in Deaths of Two Females at 7024 Jetty
December 28, 2012 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shootings of two females at 7024 Jetty about 11:30 a.m. on Monday (Dec. 24).
The suspect, Curtis James Adams (b/m, DOB: 3-29-68), is charged with capital murder in the 338th State District Court. A January 2012 photo of suspect Adams, who is also charged with indecency with a child in the 208th State District Court, is attached to this news release.
The victims, Latasha Jones, 35, and her daughter, 13, were pronounced dead at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant T. Biggs and Senior Police Officer M. Coleman reported:
The victims were found deceased from gunshot wounds in their townhome. There were no signs of forced entry to the residence. Investigators were told the adult victim and her boyfriend (Adams) had a disturbance earlier in the day.
A preliminary investigation determined Adams took a pistol, shot Jones and her daughter, and then fled the scene with his seven-year-old son, who witnessed one of the murders. Adams then went to a relative's home. Statements made by Adams caused family members to fear for the safety of Jones and, when she could not be reached by phone, other family members went to her residence on Jetty and found both victims deceased.
In addition, while at the relative's home, Adams threatened a family member with a pistol and Missouri City police officers were called to the scene. At that time, Adams was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and felon in possession of a firearm out of Fort Bend County. Police also recovered a pistol in Adams' possession.
Further investigation and evidence recovered identified Adams as the suspect in the Jetty incident and he was subsequently charged.
