August 31, 2012 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 5300 Navigation about 2:40 a.m. today.

The identity of the deceased male victim, 23, of Houston, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. A second man, also 23, was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant I. Izaguirre and Officer J. McCrady reported:

The victim was driving a gray Ford F-150 eastbound on Navigation at a high rate of speed when the truck left the roadway and struck a tree. Neither the victim nor his passenger was wearing a seatbelt. Both men were transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where the victim was pronounced dead.

Evidence at the scene indicated alcohol was involved in the accident.

The investigation is continuing.
