August 20, 2012 - Houston police are investigating an incident in which a Houston police officer discharged his duty weapon at an armed suspect(s) at 4700 Gloryland about 1:30 p.m. on Saturday (Aug. 18).

Officer N. Solomon, who discharged his duty weapon, was not injured in the incident. Officer Solomon, sworn in as an officer in June 2012, is assigned to the Southwest Patrol Division.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant K. McGray and Senior Police Officer R. Martinez reported:

Officer Solomon was off-duty and attending a funeral of a distant relative at the above address when he heard several gunshots outside the church. Witnesses pointed out a gray sedan fleeing in reverse, down Gloryland. The vehicle then struck a parked car. As the vehicle was turning around, Officer Solomon began to approach it and saw what he believed to be a driver and front seat passenger inside. As Officer Solomon approached the vehicle, he heard another gunshot. Believing he was being shot at and, in fear of his life, Officer Solomon returned fire but did not strike the suspects nor the vehicle. The suspects fled the scene. Their vehicle was found abandoned nearby. No injuries were reported.

Two persons were detained for questioning, and then released after further investigation determined they were not involved in the incident. At this time, there are no known suspects.
