October 14, 2011 - Charges of murder have been filed against a suspect in the fatal shooting of a male at 11430 Bissonnet in the early morning hours of August 6, 1983.

Ronald Joseph Loynes (w/m, DOB: 10-5-58) faces a charge of murder in the 337th State District Court. He was arrested on Tuesday (Oct. 11) in Orange County, California and is awaiting extradition to Houston. No mug shot of Loynes is available at this time.

The victim, Michael Moriarity, sufered a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. K. Peters reported:

An employee of Mr. Moriarity found him lying on a cot in his company's office at the above location. He had been fatally shot. An initial investigation did not identify a suspect in this case.

In 1987, suspect Loynes was living in Florida when a witness contacted the local police to tell them she had witnessed Moriarity's shooting in Houston. Houston police were contacted and after taking a statement from the witness, murder charges were filed against Loynes. However, the Harris County District Attorney's Office dropped the charges later that year after being unable to locate the witness.

Earlier this year, Moriarity's family contacted the HPD Homicide Division's Cold Case Squad. After consulting with the Harris County District Attorney's Office, the case was re-examined and the witness was relocated and interviewed, resulting in murder charges being filed once again on Loynes.
