March 7, 2011 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 3900 block of the North Loop East (North Interstate Highway 610 East) about 8:20 a.m. last Thursday (March 3).

The female victim, Leslie T. Campbell, 65, of Boca Raton, Florida, was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant A. Francois and Senior Police Officer R. Ontiveros reported:

According to witnesses, a white Freightline tractor-trailer and a gray Jaguar, driven by Ms. Campbell, were traveling eastbound on the 610 North Loop when the Jaguar suddenly veered back into a lane of traffic from the right shoulder.  The driver of the Freightliner then swerved to the right shoulder to avoid the crash.  The Jaguar also swerved to the right shoulder and was struck on the left rear side by the tractor-trailer.  Both vehicles then skidded on the right shoulder and then came to a stop.  Campbell died at the scene and the driver of the tractor trailer was transported to Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital with minor injuries.

No charges have been filed at this time.  The investigation is continuing.
